Event Description
Please join the American Heart Association’s young professionals group, PULSE, in celebrating Go Red for Women with happy hour at BlackFinn Saloon DC (1620 I Street) on Friday, February 3 from 5-8 PM. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance on the PULSE website (www.pulsedc.org) or at the door, and they include complimentary wine tastings, a chocolate fountain, raffle drawings and prizes, a heart healthy menu and deeply discounted wine and beer, as well as drink features. Go Red for Women brings attention and awareness to the fact that heart disease has become the number one killer of women nationally and in the greater Washington region. Statistics show that while an estimated 1 in 30 women will die of breast cancer, an estimated 1 in 3 will die from cardiovascular disease. Despite all of this though, only one in five women view heart disease as their greatest health threat and less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol.
